From hitting the books to hitting the town, UW-Madison students embody the work hard, play hard mentality. Wherever the night takes you, your outfits play a key role in terms of confidence level and self-expression. So what are students wearing to go out? Let’s go beyond Pinterest boards and capture insights from the student body on nightlife fashion.

Freshman Lily Gage says her favorite stores to shop at are Princess Polly, Edikted, Urban Outfitters (which is accessible and located right on campus) and of course, her friends' closets! “My favorite part of going out is getting ready with my friends. I love seeing what other people are wearing and trading outfits!”  Choose stores that allow you to feel like the best version of yourself on your nights out.

How Do You Personalize Your Style?

Trends may cause similarity in going-out outfits, so finding ways to individualize your outfits is important. Freshman Kaylnn Cahill says she loves adding accessories like belts, statement necklaces and rings. “I feel like the little details in going out clothes make me feel more unique, which allows my personality to show.” Accessories can accentuate outfits by adding a personal touch to your typical going out apparel.

How Do You Put Together Warm Outfits For The Cold Weather?

The cold weather doesn’t stop students from venturing for a fun night out, but staying warm is a top  priority. Freshman Mara Calderon writes that to stay warm, she loves to layer with a unique jacket from stores such as Zara and Free People. She also says, “My favorite accessory to wear and stay warm is a fun pair of boots!” Including warm accessories into your going out wardrobe not only elevates your outfit, but changes your night from freezing to fashionable.

What Influences Your Going Out Clothes?

Outfit inspiration can come from a variety of sources, such as social media, the outfits your friends are wearing and influencers. Freshman Lila Nargi says that influencers on TikTok inspire her going-out outfits the most. For instance, Halley Kate and Brigette Pheloung, NYC based fashion and beauty content creators who embody trendy and sophisticated styles. Halley Kate tends to wear neutral tones with elegant accessories while Brigette Pheloung leans towards bold statement colors.

So whether you’re heading out to dinner, going to a fun event or even taking cute pictures, your outfit provides the opportunity to elevate your evening! The goal is to create individualistic outfits that keep you feeling like your best self.
