Fashion Trend Predictions 2024

Written by Melanie Gubernik

As we roll into the new year, fashion enthusiasts anticipate the latest trends and styles of 2024. Every year, those interested in fashion look to platforms such as TikTok and Pinterest as crystal balls, revealing the newest fashion expected to emerge. Both these social media platforms and others heavily influence the fashion world, serving as centers where users can showcase creative style combinations and give input on rising popular items. Here is the latest in fashion for 2024:

MOB-WIFE AESTHETIC

According to social media, "clean girl" is out, and mob wife is in. Users everywhere have been sharing their interpretations of mob-wife-inspired outfits throughout January and February. The mob-wife aesthetic encompasses all-black pieces, such as a black top, skirt, and tall boots, finished with an oversized fur coat. Over-the-top gold jewelry, such as large hoops, bracelets, and chunky sunglasses, completes this look. The clothes are just one aspect of the aesthetic. Creators have also been sharing makeup looks, with messy buns and dark, smokey eyes associated with glamor and sophistication.

BACK TO BASICS

Fashion content creators have recently been emphasizing the need to incorporate basic pieces into your wardrobe, with celebrity influence from Hailey Bieber and Sofia Richie-Grainge who have been known to give classic items an elevated twist. Staple attire like matching skirt-and-top sets can be enhanced when paired with a leather jacket or chunky boots and accessorized with jewelry. Creators have also stressed the importance of owning an essential pair of jeans that go with everything. Investing in basic pieces is crucial to sustainability and re-wearing items time and time again while also being able to transform them into a whole new look by accessorizing them with different pieces.

CHEETAH-PRINT

Cheetah-print has appeared on Pinterest and TikTok in recent months, making a comeback. Users have been showcasing jackets, pants, shirts, and even purses with cheetah prints, proving the print is here to stay in 2024. The cheetah print's enduring popularity in fashion dates back to the 1920s, demonstrating the ability of many aesthetics to evolve and resurface throughout time. The print is a popular option for people who want to make a statement due to its eye-catching, strong pattern, which radiates confidence and gives every outfit an edge.

RIBBONS AND BOWS

Lately, ribbons and bows have been everywhere, in a wide variety of styles and variations. Beginning in late 2023, the “coquette” trend took over social media platforms, with users adding bows to any and everything. As of early 2024, bows have been worn in hair, on jewelry, or even on clothing items like tights. The ribbon and bow style is quite a nostalgic trend since it is highly reminiscent of “girlhood” and reminds many of their younger days. Overall, it is a tiny, simple detail that can change the look of any outfit.
