Transitioning Our Wardrobes From Summer to Fall

Written By Gabriella Beard

As the sun fades and the crisp fall breeze sets in, it’s time to start transitioning our wardrobes from summer to fall! After months of (I’d say short shorts, but let’s be real) jorts and strappy tank tops, it’s time to dust off those Uggs and embrace sweater weather. When I think of fall, I imagine strolling down a street full of color-changing leaves in my chunky boots and fuzzy sweater with a warm hot chocolate in hand. It’s the perfect season to combine cozy comfort with fun, stylish trends.

Fall fashion offers endless possibilities, from casual baggy jeans with oversized cardigans, to chic mini skirts with stockings and high boots. Layering is key during this transitional season, to help manage unpredictable temperatures while adding style and depth to our outfits. Whether it’s a denim vest, leather jacket, or a lightweight knit cardigan, layering can create statement looks that are practical and tasteful at the same time.

As we move through fall, in-between pieces like timeless tees and tanks become essential, making great base layers for fun-colored pullovers. When paired with the season’s rich palette of maroons, deep browns, and dark greens, they add a sense of effortless sophistication. Brown has been trending at an all-time high and serves as the perfect neutral to contrast any bold color. You can’t go wrong with any dark mocha, spicy cinnamon, rich hazelnut, or deep chocolate brown hue. These dark colors emphasize a luxurious yet earthy vibe and work together to create the perfect fall aesthetic.

Incorporating summer pieces into fall fits allows for maximum use of your clothing year-round, and reusing is a great way to promote sustainability (and is even better for our bank accounts). While fall fashion typically emphasizes the oversized and baggy look, accessorizing is a great way to elevate any outfit. Accessorizing your outfit can be seen through scarves, beanies, belts, tights, chunky jewelry, or any bootie. Loafers have also been on the rise as business-inspired looks have been trending, mixing a professional vibe with a twist of funk to create a classy, yet bold look. Elevating an outfit through accessories not only adds personal flair, but also enhances the overall aesthetic, making a simple look feel more polished and sleek.

Another way to enhance fall looks is through texture. Incorporating woolen knits, leather, suede, and denim can enrich and add depth to an outfit. In times of doubt, turn to your fashion icons and bounce off of their outfit ideas as inspiration. One of my personal favorites is Hailey Bieber; I like looking at how she pairs different pieces to inspire my own style.

Everyone has a different style and fall is the perfect time to express your style and make an outfit your own. Fashion is an awesome way to express yourself and your artistic ability: get creative, embrace layers, hop on the trends, and get ready to have the perfect fall wardrobe that reflects your unique style!
