Welcome, welcome, welcome! The Vault at UW-Madison is so excited to greet all of its new members, as well as those who are interested in joining. We truly cannot wait to meet you and bond over our passion for fashion, business, communications, and the millions of permutations in between.
The Vault first became a club in the beginning of 2023, so we formally would love to invite you to join us on the escapade throughout our first semester as an official club! The Vault is an organization about the business behind fashion, but it branches out to interests of marketing, visual and graphic design, and communications, to list a few. The goals that we want to accomplish together include understanding more about why it is important to study the business of fashion, reading more into the history behind design, registering why fashion isn’t just about aesthetics, and of course, internalizing more about expressing yourself and how to incorporate messages within the style. We want to make sure that this club is inclusive to everyone regardless of their background, style preference, or knowledge of fashion. Our prerogative is to expose students into understanding more about the realm of fashion and design.
Learning about the business behind fashion is advantageous for everyone regardless of the career path they are interested in pursuing. Familiarizing oneself with the fashion industry establishes a foundation of knowledge that introduces a burst of creativity, enhances economic and societal understandings, and sparks an ignition of inspiration to pursuing related careers, if that is something that intrigues you! There is significant value behind understanding how marketers target customers, how we can all gain insight on budgeting and spending habits, and exploring how marketing campaigns can affect buying behavior.
In parallel with many of the goals we have within the club, one of our main goals is to raise awareness for social issues through charity events; giving back to our community is one of our biggest priorities, and we strongly advocate the fact that broadening our area’s horizon through fashion can, and will, change lives. Some events we will be holding this semester include inviting guest speakers who are enthralled in the business side of fashion to speak to our members. These speakers will open doors for everyone involved in the club to understand more about the importance of trends, the messages that fashion sends, and the historical narrative behind styles. In addition to speakers, we will have a fashion show at the end of the semester that will showcase pieces from our own closets, styled together as inspired by our speakers’ lessons, as well as modeling pieces from different sponsored designers and brands. The majority of our proceeds will go towards the annual charity we decide to partner up with. This event is something to get really excited about, so do just that - get excited! Make sure to stay posted through our social platforms and by signing up to be added to our email list.
Anyone who wants to participate is welcome and encouraged to contact us, or to fill out the Google form on our “Join” page to become part of our team. We hope to see you all at the first public meeting, which is projected to be on March 1st at 6:00 pm. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
